Leon Hrgota

Leon Hrgota (born 11 January 2006) is a Croatian taekwondo practitioner. Competing in the men's 80 kg division, he won the bronze medal at the 2026 European Taekwondo Championships in Munich, Germany. He previously became European junior champion in the 78 kg event at the 2023 European Junior Taekwondo Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.

Career

Hrgota represented Croatia in youth taekwondo before moving into senior competition. In 2022, he competed in the 68 kg event at the World Junior Taekwondo Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. He defeated Huang Yu-jui and Kim Tae-hoon before losing to Matthew Summerfield in the quarter-finals.

In 2023, Hrgota won the gold medal in the boys' 78 kg event at the European Junior Taekwondo Championships in Tallinn. He defeated Matheo Lawson, Uğur Dekli, Nahil Mehnana and Mikołaj Sokołowski on his way to the title. The same year, he also won silver medals at the Slovenia Open, the European Clubs Championships and the Multi European Games.

In 2024, Hrgota competed at the European Taekwondo Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. In the men's 74 kg event, he defeated Dmitrii Suleac in his opening match and lost to Georgia's Zurab Kintsurashvili in the quarter-finals. He later moved up to the 80 kg division.

In 2025, Hrgota won the gold medal in the men's 80 kg event at the Multi European Games in Niš, Serbia, defeating Maksim Mironov in the final. Later that year, he also won the 80 kg event at the Croatia Open in Zagreb.

At the 2026 European Taekwondo Championships in Munich, Hrgota competed in the men's 80 kg event. He defeated Sweden's Tim Odling Hedqvist, Moldova's Dmitrii Suleac and Kosovo's Jon Gashi to reach the semi-finals. In the semi-final, he lost 2–1 to Belarus's Raman Turavinau and finished with the bronze medal.
