Mukul Tripathi is a journalist who will stand as an Aam Aadmi Party candidate in the 2014 Indian general election. He is the son of a retired High Court Judge, R. S. Tripathi, and has studied and lived in various cities of Uttar Pradesh. Background Tripathi initially undertook training to be a doctor but made a career change after a succession of three accidents, beginning in 1986, left him physically challenged. He became a journalist in 1998, firstly as a reporter in Gorakhpur with Rashtriya Sahara and then with Amar Ujala in Meerut. He claims that his move into politics reflects his concerns about corruption that was evidenced earlier in various sting operations that he participated in as a journalist. Tripathi has been selected as the Aam Aadmi Party candidate for the Farukkhabad constituency in the 2014 Indian general elections.<ref name="hindu" />
