Harry Garfinkle is a Green politician in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and a Professor Emeritus of Educational Foundations at the University of Alberta. Academic career Garfinkle retired from the University of Alberta in 1988 to focus on politics. Political endeavors Garfinkle first ran for public office in the provincial electoral district of Edmonton-Strathcona as a candidate under the Constitutional Socialist banner in the 1975 Alberta general election. He was defeated finishing in last place losing to incumbent Julian Koziak. In 1993, he ran for the Green Party of Canada in the federal riding of Edmonton Strathcona, receiving 287 votes (0.58%). Garfinkle ran for registered leader of the GPC in 1996 but lost to Wendy Priesnitz. Garfinkle was selected as interim registered leader of the Party, during a teleconference of the National Executive, after Priesnitz resigned in January 1997.
