Treviso–Ostiglia Railway

The Treviso–Ostiglia Railway was an Italian state‑owned railway line that connected Ostiglia to Treviso, crossing the entire Veneto region. It was long; for tariff purposes, the total virtual kilometrage was .

The railway was designed for double track and expropriations were carried out for this purpose; however, it was equipped and operated as a single‑track line. All minor civil engineering works and embankments were nevertheless built to accommodate double track.

It has been converted into a cycle path.

It was decided that the new railway should connect the station of Ostiglia in the province of Mantua, located on the left bank of the Po along the Bologna–Verona railway, with Treviso Centrale station, a junction with the Mestre–Udine and the Treviso–Portogruaro lines.

The project was suspended by the outbreak of World War I. In the 1920s, work began on the railway's construction, which was only completed in the early 1940s, on the eve of the Second World War. The line was opened in sections: the first section was Legnago–Cologna Veneta on 19 April 1925, followed on 8 July 1928 by the extension to Pojana di Granfion, which in 1937 replaced the previous Grisignano di Zocco station on the Milan–Venice line in name as well. On 28 October 1934, the Ostiglia–Legnago section was opened, and finally, on 28 October 1941, the remaining section between Grisignano di Zocco and Treviso Centrale was activated.

In the 2000s, a project was conceived to convert the line into a cycle path, named the Treviso–Ostiglia cycle path. This project has led to the creation of a cycle‑pedestrian path, currently partially completed in the section between Treviso and the province of Vicenza, with a first stretch in gravel and a second stretch almost entirely asphalted for easier cycling. Completion is scheduled for 2026.
