Reinerio Tamayo Fonseca

Reinerio Tamayo Fonseca was born in Niquero, Oriente, Cuba, in October 15, 1968. He develops the Painting, Drawing, Humoristic Drawing, Graphic Design, Animated Drawings, Illustration and Ceramics. Between 1980-1983 he studied in the Escuela Elemental de Arte, in Isla de la Juventud, Cuba. Since 1983 to 1987 he studied in the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (ENAP), in Havana, Cuba. And between 1987-1992 he studied in the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), in Havana, Cuba.

Among his must relevant personal exhibitions we can quote in 1988 Gótico, neogótico y estrambótico, in the Centro Wifredo Lam, in Havana, Cuba. In 1992 he exhibited El orgasmo es de quien lo trabaja, in the Galería Juan David. Centro de Promoción Cultural Cinematográfico Yara, in Havana, Cuba. In this year also made Entrañable museo de la pasión, in the Centro de Arte 23 y 12, in Havana, Cuba. And in 1996 he presented Mitos, genios y leyendas, in the Galería La Acacia, Havana, Cuba.

Collective Exhibitions

Among his must relevant collective exhibitions we can mention in 1989 IX International Biennial of Humor and Satire in Art. "The World Exists Because It Laughs." House of Humor and Satire, in Gabrovo, Bulgaria. In 1992 he was part of the La Ronda Cubana, in the Van Reekum Museum, Apeldoorn, Holland. In 1995 some of his works were selected to conform the Muestra colectiva de Humorismo, in the Espaço Mascarenhas, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. In this year he was also included in Palimpsestos. Citas y Apropiaciones, in Galería Habana, in Havana, Cuba. And in 1997 he was one of the selected artists to participated in the Feria Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo ARCO'97, in the Parque Ferial Juan Carlos I, Madrid, Spain. (represented by Galería La Acacia, Havana).

Awards

During his life he had obtained many awards and recognitions, among them we can quote in 1989 the Golden Aesop Grand Prize, in the IX International Biennial of Humor and Satire in Art "The World Exists Because it Laughs," House of Humor and Satire, in Gabrovo, Bulgaria. In 1990 he gained the First Prize at the I Salón Nacional de Humorismo y Sátira, Museo del Humor, in San Antonio de los Baños, Havana, Cuba. And in 1992 he obteined the Grand Prize in Cover Design for a Record. Premio EGREM'92, in Havana, Cuba.
