Washington Theatre Group
Washington Theatre Group is an amateur theatre society based in Washington, Tyne and Wear. It was formed in 1976 and is based at the arts centre in the Fatfield area of the town. It is mainly known in the area for its January pantomime productions, usually written and directed by members of the group itself. However it also performs a minimum of one mid-year show, the genre of which greatly varies.
Group activities
Different members of the group are interested in different aspects of theatre, whether this be on or off the stage. Members are encouraged to try out any aspect they wish and skills offered by individuals are used to maximum effect. The direction and production of the shows is always done by members of the group and individuals are assigned to certain tasks be it marketing, set designing and building, or lighting and sound effect duties. Outside of productions the group partakes in workshops led either by members of the group or professionals to develop specific skills.
