Aldo Menéndez
Aldo Menéndez was born in Havana, Cuba in 1971. Since 1991 he resided in Madrid, Spain but in 1994 he moved to Miami, Florida, U.S.A. Painting and performances were the artistic manifestations in which he worked the most. In 1983 until 1986 he studied at the Escuela Elemental de Artes Plásticas “20 de Octubre,” in Havana, Cuba, and from 1986 till 1988 at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes “San Alejandro” also in Havana, Cuba.
Individual exhibitions
In the period 1989-1990 he made La Escuelita. Taller de experimentación artística in Havana, Cuba, a project of collective work between young and adolescent artists submitted to the Center for the Development of Visual Arts. In 1997 he presented Trinomio Cubano. Aldo Menéndez, Ivonne Ferrer, Aldo Damián in the months of February and March at the Galería Botello, on San Juan, Puerto Rico. He also made some performances such as “Ransom” that took place in Ponce de León street in front of the gallery during the opening of the exhibition by the same name],” in: Ransom, La Boheme Fine Art, Coral Gables, Florida, U.S.A in 1995 and before in 1988 he had done “El indio,” at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba and “La última obra de arte,” Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC), Havana, CUBA. In 1989, he joined “La plástica cubana se dedica al beisbol” a collective performance in the Círculo Social Obrero (CSO) “José Antonio Echevarría,” in Havana, Cuba.
Collective exhibitions
He participated in some collective exhibitions. In 1988 the exhibition-performance Ojo, pinta made by Grupo Arte Calle at the Galería L y 23, Havana, Cuba which also includes Rock Campesino, a performance by Grupo Provisional . Also No es sólo lo que ves was made by them in the Facultad de Filología, Universidad de La Habana. MADEENCUBA took place in 1991 at the Tate Galería, in Madrid, Spain. And also, in October Maestros de la pintura cubana in the Centro Provincial de Artes Plásticas y Diseño, Havana, Cuba. Three years later he participated in the International Art Esposition Art Miami’94 celebrated in the Miami Beach Convention Center, Miami Beach, Florida, U.S.A represented by Galería Heller in Madrid. And in March 1995 he was included in Children Without A Country, a Willy Chirino Foundation Project in the Fredrick Snitzer Gallery, Coral Gables, Florida, U.S.A
Awards
In 1990 he gained a Mention [for “La Escuelita” Project. Artistic experimental project”] in the Primer Encuentro Nacional de Jóvenes Artístas de la Asociación Hermanos Saíz in Pinar del Rio, Cuba.
