Berkay Uslu
Berkay Uslu is a Turkish para-karateka. Competing in the K30 wheelchair category, Uslu represents the Turkey national team and Türk Telekom Ankara Sports Club. He won the silver medal at the 2025 World Karate Championships, and in the para-karate events held as part of the European Karate Championships he won bronze in 2024 and gold medals in 2025 and 2026.
Career
Shortly after returning to para-karate, Uslu became Turkish champion at the first national championship held in the discipline in Turkey. He then finished third at an international tournament held in Spain. In 2024, he won the bronze medal in the men's wheelchair K30 category at the 2024 European Karate Championships and European Para-Karate Championships held in Zadar, Croatia. This result was one of Uslu's first major senior European medals.
In 2025, he won the gold medal in the men's wheelchair K30 category at the 2025 European Karate Championships in Yerevan, Armenia. In the final, he faced France's Alexandre Schoegel and finished the competition as European champion.
The same year, Uslu won the silver medal in the men's wheelchair K30 category at the 2025 World Karate Championships in Cairo, Egypt. In the final ranking, he finished second behind Egypt's Abdelaziz Abouelnaga.
In 2026, he became European champion for the second time in the K30 category at the 2026 European Karate Championships held in Frankfurt, Germany. In the final, he defeated fellow Turkish athlete Ahmet Kayra Ödemiş 42.0–41.1 to win the gold medal.
Personal life
Uslu was born in the Nazilli district of Aydın. He studies at the Faculty of Sport Sciences of Aydın Adnan Menderes University.
After a traffic accident at the age of five, Uslu began using a prosthetic leg. He was interested in karate during childhood, later took a break from the sport and competed in wheelchair basketball. After becoming Balkan champion in wheelchair basketball, he returned to karate in 2022 when the para-karate category was introduced.
