Ömer Faruk Yürür
Ömer Faruk Yürür (born 1 January 2004) is a Turkish karateka competing in the 75 kg division. Competing in kumite, Yürür represents the Turkey national team and Ankara Türk Telekom Sports Club. He won the gold medal in the men's 75 kg event at the 2026 European Karate Championships.
Career
Yürür won the gold medal in the cadet 57 kg event at the European Cadet, Junior and Under-21 Karate Championships held in Aalborg, Denmark, in 2019. The same year, he won the cadet 63 kg event at the World Cadet, Junior and Under-21 Karate Championships in Santiago, Chile. In 2020, he won the gold medal in the junior 68 kg event at the European Cadet, Junior and Under-21 Karate Championships in Budapest.
In 2021, he won the bronze medal in the junior 76 kg event at the European Cadet, Junior and Under-21 Karate Championships in Tampere. In 2022, he won the silver medal in the U21 75 kg event at the World Cadet, Junior and Under-21 Karate Championships held in Konya. In 2024, he finished second in the U21 75 kg event at the European Cadet, Junior and Under-21 Karate Championships in Tbilisi. At the World Cadet, Junior and Under-21 Karate Championships held in Venice, Italy, from 9 to 13 October 2024, he won the gold medal in the U21 75 kg event.
Yürür won silver medals in the 75 kg event at the Karate 1 Premier League stages in Fukuoka in 2023, Antalya in 2024 and Cairo in 2024. At the 2024 European Universities Games, he was part of the Istanbul Aydın University men's team kumite squad.
At the 2026 European Karate Championships held in Frankfurt, Germany, Yürür became European champion in the men's 75 kg event. In the elimination rounds, he defeated the Netherlands' Ricardo Franken 3–1, Armenia's Suren Harutyunyan 7–5 and Croatia's Ivan Terihaj 6–3. In the semi-finals, he defeated Ukraine's Andrii Zaplitnyi 4–0 to reach the final. In the final, he defeated France's Kilian Cizo 6–0 to win the gold medal. It was Yürür's first senior European title.
