Music career
Early career
At the age of nine, Houghton was selected as the understudy for the Broadway production of “Annie” in the role of ‘Annie.’ It was this experience that solidified Houghton’s decision to pursue a music career.
At the age of 15, Houghton made her first trip to Nashville. From then on, she spent weekends in Nashville, working to fine tune her craft.
Two years later, at 17, Houghton made the official move to Nashville to dedicate all of her time to music and developing her career. This move later inspired one of her songs,
“17 Again”.
2013 - 2014
On August 13, 2013, Houghton released her debut single, “High,” written by Houghton and Nashville writers, Matt Dragstrem and Lance Kotara. “High’ was produced by Ethan Mentzer of Atlantic Records’ pop group The Click Five and was soon followed by the music video which premiered on VEVO.
During the winter of 2013-14 Houghton released three acoustic digital singles and videos including “Phone Call,” “Love Like That” and “17 Again.”
Both videos for “Love Like That” and “17 Again” were strongly influenced from the pop-culture during the 1950’s and 60’s. “Love Like That” references many iconic images
from those days. “17 Again” recreates the classic scene from Breakfast at Tiffany’s when Audrey Hepburn’s character, Holly Golightly climbs on the fire escape to sing the
famous song, “Moon River”.
