The New

The New is an American pop rock band from Miami, Florida, formed in 2009. The group released its eponymous debut album in 2010.
History
The Formation
The New was formed in March 2009 by Lori Garrote (vocals/guitar) and Natalie “Smallish” (bass/vocals), who had been playing together since high school and initially went by the name A.K.A. who went on to win The Best Female Band in Miami in 2007 playing their pop-punk songs.
The New is Born
Working with producer John David Thomas for two years, they recorded their first album. Though it would not be under A.K.A. Smallish and Garrote felt they wanted to take their music careers to the next level so they wanted a new start and the name "The New" came in to play and after the album's release they were joined by Jordan Calloway (keyboards/back up vocals), Kim Drake (lead guitar) and Giselle “Giz” Forte (drums). They signed with Ocean Front Records in November 2010, though Kim Drake was no longer a member at the time of the signing. The Band quickly started to receive attention from the media and two of the The New's singles were named MP3 of the day in the Miami New Times and Broward New Times The band has also won Broward and Palm Beach's 2011 battle of the bands Their Single "Hey" is featured on episode 38 and 69 of MTV Latinoamérica's [http://es. .org/wiki/Ni%C3%B1as_mal_(telenovela) Niñas mal].
