Background While studying history, psychology, sociology and economics at Corsham School, Cooper was also a member of Rudloe Air Cadets and played rugby and competed in athletics for them while he was a member. He had served with Wiltshire Police for almost three years until his death, after fulfilling a childhood dream of becoming a police officer. Cooper was posted to Trowbridge police station. Death On 1 February 2010, Cooper, a trained police driver, was in his marked patrol car travelling to assist colleagues at an incident in Southwick when he lost control on a left-hand bend and struck a tree at around 8 pm. He suffered serious injuries and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Aftermath Cooper's funeral took place on 16 February 2010, with full police honours including an escort at a service in Melksham followed by a private burial in Beanacre where he lived with his family. A service was held on the first anniversary of Cooper's death at the police station he was based at. It was attended by family, friends and colleagues and led by the police chaplain.
