"Chaos Prevails" is a heavy metal band formed on April 19th, 2006 in Delton, Michigan. The band has yet to release an album, but is planning to start recording and releasing their EP during the summer of 2008. Chaos Prevails is comprised of vocalist Mark, guitarists Matt Tuftedal and Garrett Warner, bassist Jordan Case, and drummer Kris Tuftedal.
History Forming the Band The gears of Chaos Prevails began turning several months before the band formed. Drummer Kris Tuftedal got his first drum set in early November of 2005, along with brother, and guitarist Matt Tuftedal receiving his first professional guitar at the same time. Two to three months before this, Matt started learning to play guitar on a First Act guitar.
Very soon after receiving the gear, the brothers learned how to play VERY quickly (They are completely self taught). They started to learn cover songs, including "Open Your Eyes" by Goldfinger, "Come As You Are" by Nirvana and several others. In the course of learning these cover songs, they wanted to start writing their own music. They needed a bassist and didn't know anyone who wanted to be in a band. They decided to talk to a good friend, Jordan Case and decided that he would play bass. The only problem was, Jordan had never played a bass , and had no experience playing music, unlike Matt and Kris who both played in symphonic band. Jordan started playing bass the day that we received his first bass and amp, a 5 string, bought from eBay. He received the guitar on April 19th, 2006 and the band was born.
Starting Out and the First Show Teaching Jordan how to play bass was no easy task. It took months of hard work and determination on his part. While Jordan was learning to play bass, the band decided to write their first few songs, which would all later be scrapped. By the time June had rolled around, the band had 6 instrumental songs and were ready to play their first concert.
Their first concert was on June 22nd, 2006 at the Delton District Library, opening for a punk band named Green Stick Fracture. The show didn't go well due to several technical problems and anxiousness. There were several screw ups, but made it through the show. They played for about 50 people, which, at the time, was the most people the library ever had show up at an event.
After the Show After this show, Matt and Kris played songs together, but didn't practice as a band again until mid September. Then they finally practiced again, they decided to scrap all, but one, of the songs that they had written up to then. The next set of practices were very productive. They wrote several songs that they still play today, including; "Burger and Fries" and "The Choo Choo Song". In this time, guitarist Garrett Warner, joined the band for a few weeks, but quit. They played another show at the Delton Library, at the end of October 2006, setting another record for there, having more than 100 people show up. They continued to practice together, writing more songs and increasing their talent at their instruments.
Battle of the Bands
In January 2007, Chaos Prevails signed up for Delton-Kellogg's first battle of the bands. They played the first slot of the show, setting the bar for the rest of the show. In the end, they were narrowly beaten by a rock/metal band named Aerial Black. There were 4 bands in all. All but one of them were instrumental. Two of the bands were jazz, jam bands. Unfortunately, the band received nothing for second place. After Battle of the Bands, they continued to write songs until June 2007. They played an anniversary concert on June 22nd, at the Library, and had well over 100 people show up. They had another concert in July, at Bill Moon's house.
Vocals Up until late September 2007, Chaos Prevails was an instrumental band looking for the right sound for vocals. Bill Moon introduced us to a friend named, Mark. The first time he heard us play, he made up lyrics to go with our songs, and it sounded amazing. He played his first show with us in October 2007 and has been a member since.
The Return of an Old Member? After October, the progress of the band slowed to an almost complete stop. They practiced together a few times, and wrote a few new songs, but other than that, nothing else happened with the band. No concerts, nothing else new until mid March. An old member, and friend of the band, Garrett Warner asked to re-join the band. Soon after, he joined back up with the band.
