Katari Srinivasa Rao, popularly known as ‘CBIT Srinivas’ in Hyderabad, India is the general secretary of Lok Satta Party in Andhra Pradesh and is one of the prominent leaders of the party. Earlier in his career, he was an assistant Professor of Computer Science at Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (Hyderabad, India) and also a civil society activist on several critical public issues, especially on traffic-and-public transportation and municipal administration. Early life He has a BA, MCA from Nagarjuna University, and is pursuing PhD from Nagarjuna University. He lives with Wife and two children. His wife works as lab technologist and has M.Sc degree in clinical microbiology. Political involvement CITI He marshalled hundreds of volunteers in the landmark Campaign for Integrated Transport Improvement (CITI) in twin cities. The campaign included a highly effective advocacy and grassroots awareness campaign for traffic and public transportation reforms in the twin cities. His efforts also resulted in restricting and banning unsafe hoardings on roads. The significant improvements brought about by this campaign were: introduction of link buses and combi passes for MMTS, construction of foot-over-bridges at nodal junctions, streamlining of bus stops and bus bays, etc. NCER He also coordinated and led arguably India’s most detailed and intensive voter list verification campaign in the Sanatnagar area, covering nearly two lakh voters. This was conducted as a part of the National Campaign for Electoral Reforms (NCER). His campaign has become a gold standard acknowledged by the Election Commission of India; it led to major improvements in voter enrollment and verification, transparency and accessibility of electoral rolls, especially via internet. A lot has been done but a lot more needs to be done in this field. HUDA Building Regularization On behalf of millions of ordinary and middle-class families across the state, Srinivasa Rao is leading the multi-pronged fight for justice in the Building Penalization/Regularization Scheme (BPS/BRS) issue. He led successful people’s movements against irregularities in the auctioning of HUDA lands and property registration charges. MCH Activism He also spearheaded informed, collective citizens’ initiatives for improvement of civic amenities in MCH, Qutbullapur and Serlingampally regions along with greater transparency, accountability and efficacy in city-level government. Lok Satta Party Katari Srinivasa Rao is the general secretary of Lok Satta Party in Andhra Pradesh. He is also one among the prominent leaders and spokespersons in the party. Previously he served as the Secretary of Lok Satta, Ranga Reddy District, and as the Vice President of GHMC division of Lok Satta Party.
