Madhurendra Kumar Singh

Madhurendra Kumar Singh senior leader of Bihar Congress, born on 16 December 1953, into one of the most prominent political family of Bihar, India, who were part of the freedom movement and members of the Indian National Congress. His father, Thakur Jugal Kishore Sinha, was the Member of the first Lok Sabha, his mother Smt. Ram Dulari Sinha, was the union minister and governor of Kerela. She was one of the most trusted and loyal soldiers of Indira Gandhi, and even went to Hazaribagh jail protesting, the arrest of Indira Gandhi. The Congress Party bounced back to power, in 1980 with a thumping majority, as the Janta Party Government could not survive its full term.
Political Career
Professor Singh holds the command of the . An educated leader, he is a congress party loyalist like his mother. Singh entered politics during his student life in 1974 and became the General Secretary of the National Students Union of India and Vice President of Bihar Pradesh Youth Congress successively, then Sitamarhi District Congress Committee President, Secretary of Bihar Congress Committee and held several other posts within the organization.He was majorly associated with Late.Rajiv Gandhi in past.

He came into the limelight from the student politics and co-operative movement. Currently he is a member of the All India Congress Committee and also a Professor in psychology. The first election he contested was in 1980 from Gaighatti assembly constituency, Bihar. He also contested the 1989 Parliamentary elections from Sheohar Parliamentary Constituency and received 149,212 votes.
During mid 1970's when he was General Secretary of N.S.U.I(Bihar), he was actively involved in Anti-JP Movement politics.
In the 2009 general election Madhurendra Kumar Singh was replaced as the congress candidate from Sheohar Parliamentary constituency.
He has also been the Director of Central Warehousing Corporation and Bihar State Cooperative Bank and was elected president of Bihar State Cane growers organisation.
He is running an educational institution on his father's name (Thakur Jugal Kishore Singh College) in Sitamarhi district and there is another college on his maternal grandfather's name (Mahendra Mahila College) in Gopalganj.Started his politics in Student life from National Students Union of India, then Indian Youth Congress and today he is Member, All India Congress Committee and Member, Congress Working Committee (B.P.C.C). Though he was offered an R.J.D. ticket in 1996 and 1998, which was refused by him as he preffered to be with his own party (Congress).
