Dr. Georgina Wilcock is the Green Party of Canada candidate for the Don Valley West federal electoral district (riding) in Ontario, Canada. A is being held in the riding due to the resignation of incumbent Liberal Member of Parliament John Godfrey on August 1 2008. Prime Minister Stephen Harper called for the to be held on September 22nd, 2008.
Biography Georgina Wilcock is a medical doctor with specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She emigrated from Zimbabwe in 1989 later obtained full Canadian citizenship. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Zimbabwe in 1986, coming first in her class. On completion of her degree, she worked as a physician for two years in Harare. Once in Canada she continued her specialty studies at the University of Toronto. She is currently a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and works full time at the Scarborough Hospital. For the last 10 years she has also taken on administrative duties as the chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has completed a number of courses in medical leadership, and plays an ongoing role as an educator to family practice residents. Georgina has been a champion for patient safety initiatives through the MOREob program of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada.
Georgina lives in the riding of Don Valley West with her husband of 24 years, two teenagers, a West Highland terrier and a cat. As a mother and physician she is deeply concerned about environmental degradation and its effects on human health. She sees the Green Party of Canada as an organization that is genuinely working for change. For this reason she has decided to run for the candidacy for the Green Party of Canada in the riding of Don Valley West.
