Magic Pink

Magic Pink, sometimes known as Programmers' Pink, refers to the color magenta (RGB 255, 0, 255) often used by software developers and graphic designers.

Its most common usage is adding transparent areas to sprites in video games, by filling the area that should be transparent with that color. During rendering, the pink is removed, making the background invisible and allowing it to be superimposed over other graphics.

Advantages

Since magic pink is rarely found in most graphics, it is unlikely to conflict with the colors of the actual image, and any artifacts resulting from improper rendering of the transparent section would be quickly spotted by the tester.

Disadvantages

Magic pink does not allow partial (transculent) transparency. If partial transparency is required, an alpha channel (present in ) can be used instead.
