George Allesee

George Allesee (1898-1968) was born in Clinton, Iowa on June 14 1898 to a Danish immigrant named Peder Madsen Hansen Allesø, later known as Peter M.H. Allesee. He was with the Chicago White Sox minor league affiliates from 1919-1920. He was the YMCA director in Clinton, Iowa for a few years before he moved to La Porte, Indiana in 1920 where he spent the rest of his life and was the YMCA director there as well. George Allesee coached the La Porte Slicers Baseball team from 1937-1939 and the La Porte Slicers Football team in 1937. George also coached the short lived semi pro baseball team in La Porte in the early 1930s. George was very instrumental in the LaPorte Baseball leagues and broadcasted the games at Fox Park. George won many athletic awards early in life in his home town of Clinton.
His son Tom Allesee played Indiana high school basketball for the La Porte Slicers and made the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team in 1955. He was cut shortly after that. George is also the father of Bob allesee, better known as Bob Allison—long-time Detroit radio personality and host of the 1970s TV game show Bowling for Dollars. George is the grandfather of Kevin Allesee, who has starred in many indy movies. George is the great grandfather of local La Porte Indiana musician Neil Allesee. George is the great grandfather of Sam Allesee, a pitcher for the Ohio State Buckeyes. In George Allesee's honor there is a park located in La Porte named Allesee Park.
