Elsag Datamat

Elsag Datamat S.p.A was a company owned by Finmeccanica SpA, which operates directly and through subsidiaries in the areas of: Information Technology, Automation, Security, Logistics and Transportation.
From June 1, 2011, following the merger of Selex Communications SpA, Elsag has ceased to exist and the acquiring company changed its name to SELEX Elsag SpA.
History
Established in Sestri Ponente in 1905 under the name of "San Giorgio" - "Società anonima italiana per la costruzione di automobili marittime e terrestri" began his career with the construction of cars and trains. The company was owned by the family Odera, the owner of the Cantieri Odera of Genoa since 1907 and also participated in the management of the shipyard of La Spezia and the Muggiano had headquarters in the elegant Art Nouveau building, designed by architect Gino Coppedè. The building still exists.
Subsequently, the "San Giorgio" specialized in the production of optical devices, in the design of precision instruments and in electro. Among these were manufactured coincidence rangefinders and stereotelemetri supplied to the Royal Navy and widely used on Italian warships during the Second World War.
At the beginning of the First World War the company had grown to 3,000 employees.
After the Second World War, in the 50s, was founded the "New San Giorgio SpA" Italian company in the development of electronics, going through all the historical evolution of the electronic tubes to transistors, integrated circuits, until the introduction of the microprocessor. In this period the range of proposed solutions has been gradually diversifying from military to civilian.
In 1969 the division ESA (Electronic Systems) is spun off from this and inserted into the newly-formed "Electronic San Giorgio - Elsag," the financial company STET. The company makes significant investments and equity investments, enabling collaborations with universities and study centers and establishing international partnerships with excellent companies such as AEG-Telefunken, IBM Italy, Selenia, Oto Melara and Fiat Group. The collaboration between Selenia-Space Division and Elsag born Selenia-Elsag, a subsidiary of STET, whose activities in 1982 are sold to Selenia Spazio SpA Since 1989 he joined Finmeccanica.
At the end of 1990 Aeritalia and Selenia incorporates the new company changed its name to Alenia, while the Selenia-Elsag becomes Alenia Elsag Sistemi Navali (AESN) and deals with the electronic systems of the naval military units.
In the late eighties and early nineties, the company acquired the U.S. Bailey Controls Company and Fisher & Porter Company and the German Hartmann & Braun, the Elsag becomes Elsag Bailey, a multinational publicly traded.
Was born on 1 November 1998 Elsag S.p.A. and becomes a Finmeccanica company.
the 1 August 2007 Elsag incorporated Datamat, headquartered in Rome working for some time in the IT industry, already listed on the Italian Stock Exchange and subject a few months before totalitarian takeover bid by Finmeccanica, as well as Datamat , the company was built with two other companies: Keycab SpA, a wholly owned Datamat, and Elsag Domino SpA wholly owned by Elsag. The operation resulted in the change of name to Elsag Datamat.
Subsequently, in the second half of 2010, a further reorganization within the Finmeccanica led to the sale of certain businesses, especially the defense, Logistics and Environment at Selex Sistemi Integrati and the Space sector to Telespazio. The company's headquarters has always been in Genoa Sestri Ponente. Elsag worked in the Information & Communication Technology, security, banking and postal services, transport and services to public administrations.
