Sajjid Mitha

Sajjid Mitha (born 12 February 1968) is an Indian businessman, and the Founder and President of Polymerupdate, PlasticsB2B and PGPC - all Indian companies. Notable among these is Polymerupdate, which Sajjid set up in 1999. Polymerupdate is India's first online real time news and price alert service for the Petrochemical industry. Over the past 14 years, the company has emerged as an important source for global plastics players seeking plastics and petrochemicals intelligence.
Early life
Sajjid was born on February 12, 1968 in Mumbai, India. He completed his early education from the Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai. Following the completion of his 'A' levels in Business Studies, Economics and English Literature from Mill Hill School, London, Sajjid graduated as an English major, with a first class degree, from the St Xavier’s college in Mumbai. He also holds a Diploma in Public Relations from the Xavier Institute of Communications, Mumbai.
Career
Sajjid started his career in 1992, setting up an independent polymer trading house called Far East Trading Company (FETCO). The company was an agent of one of the leading chaebols of South Korea, M/s Samsung Corporation and actively involved in selling various polyolefin products including PP, PE, PVC, PS and ABS to some of the largest plastic processing companies in the Indian sub-continent. He set up Polymerupdate.com in 1999 which has rapidly consolidated its position as a world renowned provider of real time news and price alerts in the plastics and petrochemicals vertical. Products covered include Crude oil, Naphtha, Aromatics, Olefins, Polyolefins, Commodity Polymers, Feedstocks and Petrochemical Intermediates. Polymerupdate.com serves clients across 55 countries. Sajjid also helped launch the World's 1st Android and Blackberry Smartphone Application Service along with BBM and WhatsApp alerts for daily polymer news and prices.
With a view to providing critical India and Asia-specific petrochemical content to customers of Polymerupdate, Sajjid Mitha negotiated a tie up with Platts, a leading global energy, petrochemicals and metals information provider, and a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies. Both companies jointly publish ‘Polymerscans’, a weekly joint report for South Asian markets, which covers Polyethylene (PE), Polypropylene (PP) and PolyVinyl Chloride (PVC).
Sajjid also set up Polymerupdate’s conference division, PGPC. Another initiative of his is Plastics B2B, an online trading platform and a repository of business resources and information in the field of international trade for professionals in the plastics and petrochemicals industry.
In 2002, Sajjid was appointed as an Honorary Trade Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce, Royal Government of Thailand, for promoting bi-lateral trade and enhancing the existing relationship between the two countries. Sajjid also serves as a Director with Chhagan Mitha, an automobile engineering firm, operating petroleum retail outlets in Mumbai city. He is a director of Azul Arc India, a multimedia design and technology firm, with its head office in Georgia, Atlanta, USA.
Sajjid is a partner of AHA Software Labs Pvt Ltd, a fast growing Internet/Mobile Solutions company that provides comprehensive IT solutions and services including Home Automation, Xbox Gesture Technology, Interactive Screen, Mobile Applications, Mobile sites, SEO etc. to global clients.
Personal life
He is married to Laveena Mitha - an educationist who runs 'Funstation' - her own after-school activity classes - in South Mumbai.
