eduTechnoz is an online portal founded in 2011 in Qatar to teach the Arabic language to children between the ages of 3 and 8. The site provides interactive games, eBooks, and worksheets to teach the fundamentals of Arabic. The site generates progress reports for teachers and parents to track the children’s development in learning the Arabic language. As of August 2016, the portal has more than 50,000 users and 400 educational games. Games eduTechnoz games first started as flashcards. The flashcards were later transformed into online games. Today's eduTechnoz games are designed to teach children the Arabic letters, and how to form grammatically-sound words and sentences. They are indexed according to local curricula and further organized under grades and skills. Parents and teachers are emailed real-time reports to track the children’s progress. In the case where a student’s performance declines below the expected average, a report will recommend the lingual skill that needs further attention. An awards system is embedded in the games in the form of points and certificates of recognition. Curriculum eduTechnoz games are based on the curriculum standards of the States of Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain , as well as the proficiency guidelines of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. eduTechnoz’s platform has been applied in schools in Qatar and Australia, while individual users are located in several countries including Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, the United States, Lebanon, Egypt, China and Germany. The games target the basic learning skills for the Arabic language: reading, writing, and listening. EduTechnoz seeks educational advisors to review the games before they are published. The game-creation process also includes conducting teacher and parent focus groups, and giving children access to the games for testing. Global Initiative In early 2016, eduTechnoz collaborated with Libraries Without Borders to help Syrian children in Jordan gain access to Arabic lessons. This initiative aimed at providing children in refugee camps and war zones access to non-formal education. eduTechnoz resources were used in Libraries Without Borders’ Ideas Box, a portable multi-media toolkit. Two Ideas Boxes with resources created by eduTechnoz were deployed in Jordan, one in Azraq refugee camp and one in a community center in Hashmi Shimali, Amman. Since March 2016, children aged 6 to 10 can access eduTechnoz educational content, monitor progress, and collect badges through these Ideas Boxes.
