Mod3sto

Mod3sto is an American DJ/Producer Duo consisting of Calvyn Clatanoff and Trevin Barnhill. The duo is known for their repertoire of high-energy dance music tracks with Big Room, Progressive, and Hardstyle influences.
Calvyn Clatanoff and Trevin Barnhill were both raised in a small town located North West of Albuquerque, New Mexico, called Rio Rancho. The two began playing baseball together in kindergarten and remained friends throughout their adolescent lives. Toward the end of their high school careers (2014), they began to dabble in the EDM scene under the stage name TCSquared. They quickly realized the importance of separating themselves as artists and began to save money for production equipment. They also pursued earning money by playing at school dances and graduation parties. The duo dove into producing during early part of the 2014 summer, working countless hours on original records in hopes of catching the attention of local venues, as well as influential artists. After a few months of producing, they signed their first song to Solektro Records, in September 2014, and were forced to change their stage name due to Trademark laws surrounding the name TCSquared. They came up with the name "Mod3sto", after the name of the street on which they first performed live.
From the summer of 2014 to the summer of 2015, the duo signed a few songs to small labels, gained support from early influences like Kennedy Jones, BL3R, and opened for Slander at a concert in their home town. During that year, the duo was separated by nearly 2,000 miles due to Clatanoff attending college at the University of Miami whereas Trevin Barnhill remained living in Rio Rancho. Their production was beginning to catch attention and their sound formed into a genre they came to call "Mean Room". Consisting of Hardstyle, Big Room, and Progressive influences, Mean Room was a tasteful mix of popular genres. These tracks include melodic break melodies while taking the listener by surprise with heavy, in your face, drops. They caught their first break with their Mean Room track, Umbrella, when they achieved the attention of Tommie Sunshine. He signed it to his label Brooklyn Fire, as a B-Sides Free Release, in the summer of 2015. In July 2015, Mod3sto released their second Mean Room track called Nightmare. This track received a lot of exposure and kept their momentum rising, which would be crucial for tracks to come. In August 2015, Barnhill packed up and moved spontaneously to Downtown Los Angeles, in hopes of expanding the Mod3sto name. With Calvyn Clatanoff in Miami, Florida, Mod3sto was further apart than ever expected.
In October 2015, the duo reunited in Albuquerque, New Mexico, alongside videographers, B Steez Visuals. The team prepared to co-headline a The University of New Mexico tailgate with local talent PNDA. With the hype of the New Mexico State University rivalry, I'm Shmacked flew into New Mexico to join in on the weekend and film fun. The duo ended up playing their originals in front of over 7,000 people in a show that accumulated so much hype that the hosts were forced to remove the mic from the duo's hands. Videos by I'm Shmacked were posted online and received thousands of hits. This was only the beginning of what seemed to be the rise of Mod3sto after signing songs with reputable labels such as Loca Recordings and Ridge Records. They received artist support from Junkie Kid, SAYMYNAME, Milk N Cooks, and more. This rise continued as the duo began to collaborate with Italian duo The Two Strangers, and Swedish Producer, First Gift, and released a few songs on different labels such as First Gift's own, Durp Supera, and Deorro's own Panda Funk. Quickly gaining support from Superstar Bingo Players, Hysteria Records has had some interest in the hard working duo. In the mix of all of this, Clatanoff finished his sophomore year of college at The U and moved into Downtown Los Angeles with Barnhill to attend Icon Collective a reputable production school with world class alumni. For nearly 2 years Mod3sto was split by thousands of miles yet were still able to tap into a lot of success. The duo is currently reunited in LA and have seen a vast incline in success due to the amount of countless hours they have dedicated to their craft. With back to back releases trending on Soundcloud, in June and July 2016, next to artists such as Skrillex and Migos, the headstrong duo is determined to push this rise to stardom to the absolute limit.
