Dawit Mulugeta

Dawit Mulugeta (; born January 1, 1961) is an Ethiopian agronomist, statistician, author, and academic research scientist. He moved to America in the late 1980s to pursue his degree, and has published 14 independent academic articles and research papers in peer reviewed research journals.
Life and career
Mulugeta was born in Asmara, Ethiopia, before its separation from the country during the prelude of an ongoing Eritrean civil war. Ethnically Amharic, he attended schools in Addis Ababa, Gondar and Azezo, Ethiopia. He lived in Azezo for the majority of his childhood and graduated from Azezo Comprehensive High School in 1979. In 1983 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Arat Kilo, Addis Ababa University. During the period of 1983 to 1989 he was employed by the Institute of Agricultural Research as an agricultural scientist and worked in the western region of Ethiopia at Bako Research Center. He began studies for a Master of Science degree in Agronomy in September 1989 at Montana State University under the direction of Dr. Peter K. Fay.
From December 1997 to 2000, he was a research scientist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in agronomic sciences, where he received his Ph.D. Mulugeta initiated and executed research projects for farmers in the agro-eco system of Wisconsin. This work consisted in focused economics of farm management practices, as well as the use of pesticides to maximize profit and control-efficacy; and measured cropping system productivity influenced by population dynamics. During this time, he published seven academic research papers pertaining to this field. He has published four academic research papers in the use of SAS algorithms and pricing analytics from 2013-2015.
Impact
Mulugeta's publications have been used in multiple Consensus Study Reports by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, such as The Impact of Genetically Engineered Crops on Farm Sustainability in the United States. Organizations, such as the Committee on the Impact of Biotechnology, Kenyan Agricultural Research Institute, the United States Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources, and the Division on Earth and Life Studies, have referenced his research to shape agricultural policy.
