Academic divisions of University of Dhaka

Today, there are 13 faculties, 71 departments, 10 institutes, 38 research centres, 1,805 teachers, about 33,100 students, 17 residential halls and 3 hostels. Two-thirds of the present faculty possesses degrees from universities in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. Many of them achieved international reputation for their scholarly works. Many also have the experience of teaching in well-known institutions of higher learning abroad.
Faculties
Faculty of Business Studies
The Faculty of Business Studies (FBS) () is one of the leading faculties of The University of Dhaka. In 1922, one year after the establishment of The University of Dhaka, Department of Commerce was founded under Faculty of Arts. Later in 1970 it started its activities as a separate faculty. At first it had only two departments - Accounting and Management. In 1974, The Department of Finance and The Department of Marketing came into existence. It was renamed as Faculty of Business Studies in 1994. It also has a Bureau of Business Research.
The Students of this faculty published an annual Business Magazines named The Voice of Business (VOB). Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam is the Dean of this faculty.
It offers Bachelor of Business Administration, Master of Business Administration, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy programmes. In addition, it offers evening MBA program for the executives. The BBA program is a four-year program. The program comprises 120 credit hours spread over eight semesters.
Currently it has around 4800 students, 129 teachers and 56 administrative staffs. It currently consists of eight departments which are:

Faculty of Arts
The oldest faculty of the University includes departments like, Philosophy, History, English, Linguistics, Bengali, Arabic, Information Science & Library Management etc. The current dean is Sadrul Amin.

Faculty of Pharmacy
Realizing the increasing demand of pharmacy education in national and international stage Academic council of Dhaka University decided to establish Pharmacy Faculty in 1993 and it went on operation in 1995 under Nurun Nahar Rahman (as acting Dean). First elected Dean was A.K. Azad Chowdhary.
In 2003, three new Departments were established under Pharmacy Faculty named Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Clinical Pharmacy & Pharmacology and Pharmaceutics & Pharmaceutical Technology.

Faculty of Biological Science
It was established on the 1 January 1974. Previously the departments of this faculty was associated with the Faculty of Science. Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Soil Science, Microbiology, Botany & Zoology are the mention-worthy departments of the faculty. It offers BSc (Honours), MSc, MS, M.Phil. and PhD courses.
The Faculty publishes the Dhaka University Journal of Biological Sciences.

Institute of Energy
The Institute of Energy (IE), University of Dhaka established in
November 2013 by conversion of erstwhile Institute of
Renewable Energy (2011). This institute is pioneer in doing
research and education in the field of Renewable Energy
Technology in Bangladesh from its inception since 1981as
Renewable Energy Research Centre. In order to produce
efficient and qualified manpower in this field we should make
effort to educate our young generation, equip them with quality
and market oriented know how for the country. It will open up
the world of opportunity for them to contribution in this field all
over the world.
Development of required manpower in the field of Renewable
Energy Technology would cater the growing demand of time.
The Institute of Energy has taken up this timely step to
introduce an MS program in Renewable Energy Technology of
18 months duration since 2011. This course is open to
graduates of multiple disciplines as mentioned in the application
requirement.
Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies
Institute of Leather Engineering & Technology
The Institute of Leather Engineering & Technology is an educational institution of University of Dhaka. This institute provides education related to the art and technology of making leather, leather products, and footwear. It was established in 2011. The B.S.C in Leather Engineering, Leather Product Engineering and Footwear Engineering is a four years program.
