Daniel Reed is the main developer and programmer of the naim AOL Instant Messenger client using the C programming language. He is also an IRC Operator on EFnet.
In 2003, he graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.
Reed has worked as a software developer at Red Hat, Inc. and was previously enlisted in the United States Army. He currently works for Google Inc. as a software engineer.
Shortly after starting work at Red Hat, Reed participated in the 2004 DARPA Grand Challenge as a member of Team LoGHIQ. During the qualification event, due in part to the addition of Red Hat-style fedoras to the team's uniform, the team was featured on CNN and footage of Reed working on the vehicle was included in several broadcasts on The History Channel. An article published during the event in the New York Times focused on Reed's work. After the qualification event, representatives from a Congressional committee reporting on the Grand Challenge invited Reed and teammate Seth Cabe to discuss the vehicle.
