Thia Megia is an American singer/songwriter
Early Years
Thia was born in Redwood City, California. She is of Filipino descent.
She started singing at the age of four, and began performing when she was five. Her grandmother and mom made her performing costumes, as Thia self-choreographed her own dance moves to Brittney Spears’s “Oops I Did It Again” and “Satisfaction” when she was four. What captured the audience’s attention most was her expression and feeling to the beat. One of her first performance was for the Annual Filipino-American Friendship Day Parade in Westlake, San Francisco, California.
At the early age of six, Thia wrote and composed her very first song entitled “I Will Always Love You”, dedicated to her teddy bear Twinkle. She recorded her song onto a demo CD.
Thia has been competing in The Western Regional California State Talent and Performing Arts Competition from 2002-present. She has won several Double Grand, Grand and first place awards. Her first song to perform in the competition, at age seven, was Phantom of the Opera’s ‘Angel of Music’
In 2003, she auditioned for “America’s Most Talented Kids” in Los Angeles.
Performances
In 2005, she auditioned for the role of Nala in the New York Broadway hit ‘The Lion King’
Her first football game performance singing the Star Spangled Banner was on December 4th, 2005 for the NFL 49ers home game in San Francisco, CA. She was 10 years old and had an audience of approximately 60,000 49er fans. That day, she met former NFL running back, Roger Craig, and owner of the San Francisco 49ers, John York.
Thia’s performance was broadcasted on the KNBR Radio Sports Channel.
Before the game, she was featured on the front page of the Oakland Tribune Article on December 3rd2005 ‘Little singer to kick off 49ers game Haywardgirl, 10, to belt out’. And after the game, on December 5th, 2005, she was again featured on the Oakland Tribune Article “Oh Say, Can She Sing” written by staff writer, Michelle Beaver.
Later that year, she performed the National Anthem and half time performances for numerous Stanford University sports events including the opening ceremony for the new Stanford Football Stadium on September 16th2006 which included Navy jet flyovers, a grand opening ribbon cutting, a special entrance by the Navy "Leap Frog" team and the U.S Navy Parachute Team. One of her other performances for Stanford included the 2006 XI FINA Masters World Championships with Michael Olmstead of E2K, in Palo Alto. She has also sung for the Men’s and Women’s Basketball games that have played against Harvard and Yale University, and several other opponents.
In 2006 and 2007, Thia had her second and third performance for the San Francisco NFL 49ers singing the National Anthem at age 11 and 12.
On January 2nd2007, 11 year old Thia was a guest on NBC KRON 4 “The World According to Gary” with Gary Radnich, the lead sports anchor on KRON television. She sung the Disney Cinderella theme “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes”
In May 2007, Thia won the Saratoga Idol Talent Contest. And in June 2007, she won also won the San Jose Idol Competition, held in the San Jose Library.
Thia was one of the several listed performers for the San Jose Jazz Festival sponsored by Southwest Airlines in August 2007 at the main stage where she performed the Ray Charles version of “America the Beautiful” and the Chicago musical “All That Jazz”
She has done several National Anthem performances for the San Francisco MBL Giants that include the 2007 All Star Game and the Barry Bonds Day in Justin Herman Plaza, San Francisco on August 24th2007, honoring the home run record of Barry Bonds. During the event, she met Willie Mays and the San Francisco Mayor, Gavin Newsom.
Thia has performed for several organizations such as The American Cancer Society Relay for Life and The Women of Temple Emanu-El. For opening performances, she sung for Late Night Catechism in October 2007. And in January 4th, she performed the opening of the Yale Spizzwinks (?) Concert in Saratoga, California.
In February 9, 2008, Thia was televised on “Showtime at the Apollo” in New York Citysinging Jennifer Holiday’s “I Am Changing".
Thia was invited to sing for two Infineon Raceway events, including the Indy race event in August 2008, and the All Pinks Out race event in September 2008.
On October 1, 2008, Thia performed the National Anthem and Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” for the ‘Welcome Home 2008 U.S Olympians and Paralympians Dinner’ in the Palace Hotel of San Francisco.
On October 30, 2008 Thia sung the National Anthem for the 2008 Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Sonoma, California. It was televised on the golf channel.
