BiomedRx offers a wide array of services to the biomedical engineering community, such as BMET (Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Technician) certification training, factory-authorized service representation for start-up medical device manufacturers, and healthcare technology management services to hospitals and other healthcare providers. These services include, but are not limited to, the installation, calibration, repair, preventative maintenance and electrical safety inspection of all modalities of diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment. The medical equipment supported by BiomedRx include biomedical equipment, laboratory equipment, and all modalities of medical imaging equipment, including X-ray (radiographic and fluoroscopic), Computerized Tomography (CT), Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems and support equipment. BiomedRx also provides educational services to equipment operators and Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Technicians (BMETs) in the proper use, maintenance, and servicing of all equipment used in a hospital environment.
History
BiomedRx Inc. was founded in 1996 by Devin Lockett for the purpose of providing high quality biomedical engineering and educational services to healthcare providers and medical device manufacturers internationally. The company was originally incorporated in Miami, Florida and operated out of the city of Coral Gables, Florida. BiomedRx has provided healthcare technology management services to hospitals throughout the United States, and in 28 countries in Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America.
Soon after incorporating BiomedRx, Devin Lockett recognized a need for biomedical and medical imaging equipment service education in many of the developing countries of the Caribbean and Latin America, which comprised a significant share of the companies original customer base. Mr. Lockett developed a comprehensive training course in the maintenance and management of biomedical and medical imaging equipment. This course was based on the United States Air Force training in Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Technology, the requirements for ICC Certification for CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician), CRES (Certified Radiology Equipment Technician) and CLES (Certified Laboratory Equipment Technician) examinations, and custom tailored to include the specific maintenance requirements for the equipment installed in client healthcare facilities. These educational services were conducted in healthcare facilities in the United States, and throughout the Caribbean and Latin America in English and Spanish.
California
In 2001 BiomedRx Inc. expanded to California, opening its present corporate headquarters in Beverly Hills. The company now offers, in addition to the original technical and educational services, consulting services to healthcare providers, medical device manufacturers, and independent service organizations. These client organizations are involved in the development, use and servicing of diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment, medical imaging equipment, and support systems. BiomedRx's equipment support base has expanded to include high-end medical imaging equipment, such as Nuclear Medicine, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computerized Tomography, and Positron Emission Tomography systems.
BiomedRx maintains the highest standards of service documentation and control in the medical device industry. They are the first biomedical independent service organization to provide video recordings of all service events to their customers online via the company extranet.
BiomedRx has also been a pioneer in the healthcare technology management industry by being the first organization to offer online training to those entrusted with the maintenance of medical equipment and medical imaging systems.
BiomedRx serves as a manufacturer field service support organization for medical device manufacturers. Most of these manufacturers are start-up organizations that wish to expand their sales base into territories where an adequate service infrastructure has not been established. In this capacity, BiomedRx provides warranty and contract field service support on behalf of the manufacturing organization. BiomedRx provided these services, for example, to Renal Solutions, Inc. (now a subsidiary of Fresenius Medical Systems Inc.), installing, maintaining and providing applications engineering support for Renal Solutions' initial line of sorbent dialysis machines in the state of California.
Hospital Services
Since 1996 BiomedRx has been providing healthcare technology management services to hospitals, hospital systems, and other healthcare providers internationally. BiomedRx services are unique in that they focus on empowering hospitals to better meet their medical equipment maintenance and repair needs while saving money and maximizing the effectiveness of patient care.
In addition to manufacturer-standard medical equipment maintenance services, such as incoming inspections, repairs, installations, calibration, preventative maintenance and electrical safety inspection, BiomedRx also offers classroom and in-service education to client hospitals' biomedical equipment maintenance and clinical staff.
The BiomedRx Asset Management and BMET Training program was instrumental in establishing technical service self-reliance among the biomedical equipment maintenance technicians employed by the Ministry of Health of The Bahamas, and working at the various government hospitals, including Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau ( New Providence Island) and Rand Memorial Hospital in the City of Freeport ( Grand Bahama Island).
Asset Management
The BiomedRx Asset Management program is designed to systematically reduce the costs of healthcare technology management for any hospital. BiomedRx evaluates a hospital's present medical equipment maintenance costs and designs a custom program to save the hospital money, while increasing equipment service uptime. In the unfortunate event of equipment failure, no outside service organization can guarantee a shorter response time than the hospital's in-house biomedical engineering staff. BiomedRx makes that competent in-house service staff a reality.
The objectives of the BiomedRx asset management and educational services are:
* To reduce the costs of medical equipment maintenance by eliminating costly manufacturer service contracts on high-tech equipment. This is accomplished by empowering the hospitals in-house biomedical staff to assume maintenance responsibility for said equipment through classroom training and in-service education.
* To improve the environment of care of the facility through the BiomedRx asset management program. The BiomedRx program guarantees comprehensive documentation and control of a hospitals medical equipment management program; including equipment and spare parts inventories, repair and equipment recall reports, and preventative maintenance inspection schedules and procedures. BiomedRx monitors and controls all costs of ownership throughout the life of the equipment.
* To provide training for a hospital's in-house biomedical equipment maintenance staff, empowering them to competently maintain all equipment used within the facility, according to manufacturer standards. BiomedRx training has also empowered many biomedical equipment maintenance technicians to obtain professional certification (CBET, CRES, CLES).
* To maintain an asset management program designed to assess and control the clinical and physical risks of fixed and portable equipment used for the diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and care of patients, utilizing cutting-edge technology for communication, documentation and reporting.
* To guarantee that the Environment of Care in a healthcare facility maintains regulatory compliance with , and all other applicable regulatory agencies.
Clinical Engineering Support Services
For healthcare facilities that do not require our comprehensive Asset management program, BiomedRx offers Clinical Engineering Support Services. Client hospitals can choose only the Clinical Engineering programs that are needed and then evaluate them against cost and performance goals. The BiomedRx outsourced Clinical Engineering solutions include, but are not limited to:
