History & Company Mission The company was founded in 1999 by an Emergency Department physician frustrated at the lack of available patient information that was essential to make critical clinical decisions. Determined to change the situation and improve patient care, he assembled a team of technologists and information technology services professionals to create software solutions that would: • Enable healthcare providers to access patient information anytime, anywhere • Empower the secure exchange of patient information locally, regionally, and nationwide • Enhance physician-to-physician collaboration to improve patient care while reducing costs • Engage patients and their families to proactively manage their health In January 2009, Medicity merged with Novo Innovations Inc., the smaller and younger of the two companies. The merger combined Medicity's service-oriented architecture (SOA) technology with Novo Innovation's distributed computing approach to information exchange. The combined companies are known as Medicity. Founders Chairman/CEO James Kipp Lassetter, M.D.; and EVP/CTO David Coyle have worked hand-in-hand for over a decade to grow Medicity. Novo Innovation's founders are Robert Connely and Alok Mathur, both now with Medicity. Patented Agent-grid Technology Medicity was awarded a patent for its agent-grid technology, invented by Alok Mathur, by the United States Patent and Trademark Office in January 2010. These smart agents enable peer-to-peer connectivity and electronic health record integration. Medicity's Novo Grid solution consists of this patented technology. The purpose of the Novo Grid and its agent-grid technology is to securely connect disparate systems across multiple acute care and ambulatory care locations to enable community-wide health information exchange.
