Edge Health Solutions, Inc. is a is a software developer for the health care industry. The company currently delivers electronic practice management software on the Apple Inc. Mac platform that integrates electronic health records with diagnostic graphics for medical and dental health professionals.
Founded in 2007, Edge and other software developers serving the health care sector are receiving increased attention following announcements in the United States of government-backed incentives for physicians and dentists to implement EHR practice management systems.
Practice Management for Mac
Edge uses the Mac OS X through its proprietary Edge Management Platform (EMP) which provides a foundation specifically designed for the healthcare industry. For example, Edge developed an integrated tablet Mac application with its Edge Clinical ChartBook, a pen-based clinical charting and patient education solution available for all Edge software offerings including Allscripts MyWay for Mac.
Partnerships
Edge has formed several partnerships to deliver integrated health record capture, simplified payment processing, integrated drug reference and a powerful graphics interface for diagnostics.
Epocrates
Edge added Epocrates, the popular drug reference to its integrated software offering designed to support healthcare professionals at the point-of-care.
Using EdgeMD software, a medical professional may easily launch the Epocrates drug guide on their mobile device to view information such as available dosage before writing a new prescription. It provides access to over 3,300 drug monographs with adverse reactions, contraindications, mechanism of action, pricing information and more. The built-in drug interaction feature also allows providers to simultaneously check for potentially harmful interactions among up to 30 drugs at once.
Calgary Scientific
Edge expanded its relationship with Calgary Scientific Inc. Calgary Scientific’s ResolutionMD web product expands and extends the functionality of Allscripts MyWay for Mac and allows dentists and physicians to see actual diagnostic images through their iPhones, laptops or desktops.
The deal allows Edge Health the exclusive right to deliver the Calgary Scientific technology embedded within Allscripts MyWay for Mac. This new offering supports the movement in Canada, the US and Europe toward EHR integrated technology that allows physicians to view diagnostic images, analyze patient files and share information with other medical professionals from a single source diagnostics environment.
Allscripts
Through an exclusive working arrangement with Allscripts, Edge provides US and Canadian physicians and dentists with practice management software exclusively for the Apple Mac platform. Edge will offer the Allscripts solution as part of its next generation for Apple desktops, laptops and mobile devices including the iPhone and the new iPod Touch.
Edge selected the Enterprise version of Allscripts ePrescribe for 1,000 physicians and dentists who use Edge practice management software, developed specifically for Mac OS X. Through its products, Edge MD for physicians and Edge DMS for dentists, Edge Health Solutions provides a practice management solution for Electronic Health Records (EHR) which integrates diagnostic records, charts and imaging.
MedAvant
Edge established an important partnership with MedAvant Healthcare Solutions, a leader in healthcare technology and transaction services for the delivery of electronic claims processing as part of Edge Health Solutions’ e-Billing solution.
Edge will offer MedAvant’s real-time claims processing service and its online portal, myMedAvant as part of its expanded e-billing solution.

The addition of Epocrates’ software rounds out the offering as it has been reported to help physicians not only reduce medical errors, but also increase patient satisfaction.
