History
Founded in 1984 by Don Jacobson, the company was a single-office, business-to-consumer computer store, operating as a franchise. One of the first employees was his son, and current CEO, Mark Jacobson. In 1995, Mark and his brother Jim purchased the company from their father. At this time, the company transitioned into a business-to-business model with a focus on advanced information technology solutions for business problems.
Over the decades, NetGain Technologies expanded from its Lexington headquarters, and as of 2013 has offices in Louisville, Kentucky; Little Rock, Arkansas; Chattanooga, Tennessee; and Cincinnati, Ohio.
In 2012, the company acquired local competitor, IntraSource. Both companies had 28 year histories as technology solutions providers for Lexington and the surrounding Bluegrass region.
Founder
NetGain Technologies founder Don Jacobson did not start his company until in his 50s. Before this, he served as an MP in the US military. He received his PhD degree from the University of Maryland in 1956 and went on to teach at the University of Kentucky in the Agriculture Animal Sciences department for almost 20 years. During that time he developed one of the largest dairy farms in Kentucky with his sons Jim, Dean, Ross and Mark. When Don originally founded NetGain Technologies, it was a small business-to-consumer shop. He said he opened the store after seeing an advertisement in a Lexington magazine saying "IBM dealer wanted". Jacobson was also the member of several community and service organizations, including the Lexington Lions Club, where he was president and district governor.
