Bernd Dittrich (b. Vienna, Austria in 1988, died in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada on 11 November 2009) was a football player with Simon Fraser University (SFU) Clans. He died in Royal Columbian Hospital where ge was taken after losing consciousness in a swimming pool on SFU’s Burnaby campus. He was 21. He had a previously undetected heart condition.
Dittrich started playing football at Vienna Vikings club. He moved to Heavener, Oklahoma, at the age of 17 for his senior year of high school, and played both quarterback and linebacker for the Heavener Wolves. He was rcruited to the SFU Clans in August 2007. At time of death, he was third-year Bachelor of Science student at the university.
