Afraj Singh Gill (born April 21, 1992) is an Indian-born Canadian entrepreneur and community activist. Gill is known for his advocacy work concerning youth-related issues, education, and new-immigrant student issues. He has been recognized by a number of organizations, at provincial and national levels. Biography Gill immigrated to Canada with his family in 2000, at age 8, from Chandigarh, India. In 2010, he was in the media spotlight for his achievements in academia, scoring a 100% across all courses in his secondary education. Gill achieved a cumulative total of over 16 provincial and national scholarships valued at more than $100,000, making him one of the most notable graduates of British Columbia and Canada for that year. He then attended Simon Fraser University's Beedie School of Business on the university's top scholarship awarded to only two students, worth $34,000. After a year at Simon Fraser, Gill dropped out and chose to continue his education as a Chancellor's Scholar at the Queen's School of Business. Following his high school graduation, Gill co-founded GammaSocial Inc.; the City of Surrey and Surrey Board of Trade have recognized him for his entrepreneurial endeavours. Community activism Gill's passion for activism arose from his extra-curricular involvement at the high school level, and eventually escalated to his commitments with over 7 non-profit organizations. While at high school, he served as the graduation class president and valedictorian. Gill then went on to co-found ASHA (Advocates for Social and Heritage Awareness), a youth-oriented organization focused on advocating for new-immigrant issues, and helping students in need get access to financial aid, regardless of their educational background. His community involvement was personally recognized by Steven Point, the former Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. Darpan Magazine, alongside Olympic freestyle wrestler Arjan Bhullar and world-renowned entrepreneur Gurbaksh Chahal, also recognized him for his achievements in academia and community initiatives. Other activities Gill is currently serving as an elected Senator at the Queen's School of Business (Queen's University) in Kingston, Ontario. He was also appointed to a two-year term on the Queen's University Senate Committee on Academic Development (SCAD). Gill is said to have a background as a martial artist, earning his black belt in Taekwondo at a very young age. He learned how to fly planes before learning to drive, earning his private pilot's license from the former Canadian Chief of Defense Staff, General Walter Natynczyk.
