Early life and education
Cran was born in Assinaboia Saskatchewan, Canada in 1963. She grew up in a French Canadian family. Her father was a farmer, a car salesman and a traveling insurance salesman. Her mother was a homemaker.
She moved frequently in her childhood mainly throughout Saskatchewan and British Columbia. She graduated high school in Osoyoos British Columbia, Canada.
Career
After graduating high school, Cran moved to Vancouver British Columbia where she obtained a job in banking as a teller. She worked her way up to customer service roles, a foreign exchange role and was promoted to a leadership position at the age of 23 where she was given her first management role as an assistant branch manager. She had nine people reporting to her all older than her. The branch she was working in had the unfortunate esteem as having the second highest number of bank robberies in the city and Cran was quickly known for her skilled ability to handle herself well under pressure!
After ten years in the banking industry Cran had developed a reputation within the industry of being highly service focused, a natural leader and her results were such that she was often approached by ‘head hunter’ recruitment firms and she eventually accepted an offer to work for the Mortgage Insurance Company of Canada (MICC), now known as GE Capital.
From there Cran went on to start and develop a mortgage lending division for Westminster Credit Union. Knowing that she had much to share with others and being entrepreneurial in 1994 after interning with a major consulting firm she went on to open her own consulting company Synthesis at Work Inc.
In addition to her consulting practice, in 1999 Cran started conducting leadership seminars globally for Career Track and National Seminars and continued her own education through college courses, certificate programs and self-development programs.
Cran has published 5 books since 2001, “Say What You Mean- Mean What You Say”, “50 Ways to Lead & Love It”, “The Control Freak Revolution”, “101 Ways to Make Generations X, Y and Zoomers Happy at Work” and her current “ Leading Across the Digital Divide”.
