Justin Gominsky

Justin James Gominsky (born August 26, 1989) is an American professional baseball outfielder with the Lexington Legends organization in minor league baseball. Prior to being drafted by the Houston Astros in the 11th round of the MLB June Amateur Draft, Gominsky played college baseball at the University of Minnesota.
Early Life
Justin Gominsky was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Danny and Gladis Gominsky, living in New Brighton, Minnesota until he was 10 years old, and then moved to Mahtomedi, Minnesota until he was 18 years old. Gominsky attended Mahtomedi Senior High School, where he was a two-sport prodigy in football and baseball. He was a 3 time all conference football player, and an all state wide receiver his senior year. Gominsky, standing at 6-4, led the Mahtomedi Zephyrs to the 2007 Minnesota State High School League Football Championship. Baseball was Gominsky's passion, however; when he graduated high school in 2008 he had been a 3 time all conference player, as well as made the all state team twice as a Junior and Senior.
College Career
Gominsky was signed to the Minnesota Gophers in the spring of 2008, and proceeded to go the University of Minnesota in the fall of 2008. As a freshman in 2009, Gominsky was named to the Big Ten All-Freshmen Team, the Collegiate Baseball Magazine Freshman All-American team, and to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team. He batted .338 that season with 35 runs scored, 25 RBI, 11 doubles and was 11-for-11 on the base paths. In the 2010 season Gominsky missed the majority of it due to a knee injury. He returned to the 2011 season and started all 49 games, with a batting average of .307, 30 runs scored, and 18 RBI. He helped the Gophers to finish 25-24 overall, and 13-11 in the Big Ten. All throughout college Gominsky also excelled in academics, maintaining a 3.2 gpa, and was named a student athlete of the week his freshman year.
Professional Career
Justin Gominsky was signed to the Houston Astros on June 11th, 2011. He was the ninth pick in the 11th round of the 2011 Draft. His first season in 2011 he played for the Tri-City ValleyCats in Troy, New York. They are a short-season A minor league team. He had a batting average of .237, 18 RBI, and 35 runs scored.In 2011 he was awarded as a New York Penn League, (NYPL) Mid-Season All-Star. In 2012 Gominsky played for the Lexington Legends in Lexington, Kentucky, they are a low A minor league team. His batting average for 2012 was .241, 36 RBI, and 37 runs scored. In August of 2012 Gominsky was awarded Defensive Player of the Month.
