Joey Halzle

Joey Halzle (born January 29, 1986) is a former American football quarterback who played college football at Golden West College and the University of Oklahoma.
High school career
Halzle was a three-year starter in high school, throwing for 2,500 yards and 28 touchdowns en route to leading his team to the 2004 All-CIF championship his senior season. He also earned All-CIF and All-Area First-team honors.
College career
Golden West College
Halzle played at Golden West College in 2005. In ten games he threw for 2,077 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Oklahoma
Halzle transferred to the University of Oklahoma at the beginning of the 2006 spring semester. He served as Paul Thompson's his first season. He saw action in two games, against Middle Tennessee State and Iowa State, throwing two passess in the former game.
In 2007, Halzle competed for the starting job against freshman Sam Bradford. Ultimately losing the battle, he saw action in eight games. He threw his first career touchdown against the Miami Hurricanes. He had a career-high game against Texas Tech, going 21-of-41 for 291 yards and two touchdowns.
Halzle returned for his senior season in 2008. He primarily watched from the sidelines as Bradford posted arguably the greatest quarterback season in Oklahoma history, culminating in winning the Heisman Trophy. Halzle saw action in seven games. The bulk of his statistics came in week one against Chatanooga, throwing 14-of-16 for 122 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Post-college career
At the conclusion of his college career, Halzle entered the NFL Draft, participating in his Oklahoma's pro day. His 40-yard dash time dropped immensely since his senior year of high school, from 4.58 to 4.95 seconds. He was ultimately ranked 55th amongst quarterbacks and went undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft.
On March 2, 2012 it was announced that Halzle would return to the University of Oklahoma as an offensive graduate assistant coach.
Outside of football
Halzle started visiting The Children's Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma in 2006 following encouragement from former Oklahoma halfback Jacob Gutierrez. After making numerous visits over the next few years, he decided for his senior project to make a coloring book for the kids at the hospital as part of his Capstone class.
Personal
Halzle is the son of Corky and Theresa Halzle. He majored in human relations while at the University of Oklahoma.
