Remi Aiyela

Remi Aiyela is a United Kingdom-trained Nigerian solicitor, accredited mediator and publisher of Nigeria Oil and Gas Intelligence magazine.

Education

Remi Aiyela had her secondary education at Queen's College, Lagos, from where she proceeded to the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife. She left Ife for the United Kingdom to study law at the University of London, where she got her LL.B and LL.M.

Career

Remi Aiyela has a career path that has taken her across various human endeavours, notably, law and media. She took up her first job at the African Continental Bank, Lagos. Her job was to reconcile all the figures at the end of each day.

Law

Remi Aiyela founded and was managing director of Cavendish Law, a boutique firm in Mayfair, Central London, which specialised in commercial and private client law. She also runs a capital advisory firm, Cavendish Advisory, which supports foreign investors in Africa through deal sourcing and due diligence. Cavendish Advisory focuses on extractive industries particularly oil and gas.

Remi Aiyela set up and headed the private client department for Laytons Solicitors, a commercial law firm in Guildford. She represented Laytons Solicitors in its partnership with Clydesdale Bank in Guildford to organise seminars to "help business owners implement an effective game plan for saving tax and protecting their valuable assets." In 2008, Remi Aiyela created a one-hour DVD, titled Guide to Making a Will. Profiled as "The UK's First Comprehensive Guide to Making a Will," the DVD "guides the viewer through every step of the making of a will."

Remi Aiyela has played roles as vice chair of the British Nigeria Law Forum, an organisation that promotes bilateral relationships between British and Nigerian lawyers; as the Legal Adviser to the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (CANUK), the umbrella organisation for UK-based Nigerian associations and organisations, which was set up by the Nigerian High Commission in London. She was the Chair of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), Surrey Branch.

In September 2011, Remi Aiyela led a consortium, operating under Osike Synergy Limited, to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT to seek approval to build a five-star hotel and a mass housing district in Abuja.

She returned to Nigeria to contribute her quota to the development of the petroleum industry in Nigeria.

Media and Publishing

Remi Aiyela is the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of Nigeria Oil and Gas Intelligence (NOGIntelligence). NOGIntelligence was launched in March 2013, and started as a weekly e-newsletter providing the oil and gas industry and the wider financial community with actionable intelligence, news and data on the Nigerian petroleum industry. Its launch had in attendance incumbent Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, and other players in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. During the launch of the journal, Remi Aiyela said that NOGintelligence came "at a time when investors from around the world had their eyes firmly on Nigeria" and were "thirsty for knowledge and information AbOUT our industry." According to Aiyela, NOGIntelliegnce intended to "ensure that people from all sectors of the industry – from the drilling engineer to the energy lawyer to the environmental campaigner – find something relevant and of interest to them in every issue. There is something for everyone from every sector of the oil and gas industry."

NOGintelligence now publishes a magazine, which is printed and published quarterly.
