Showunmi Rex
Showunmi Rex (born Oluwaremilekun Showunmi 23 November 1985) is a Nigerian Entrepreneur, born into the family of Zachariah and Elizabeth Showunmi. His father is a Traditional Council Chief of Igbogun Kingdom in Ogun State and his Mother an Owu princess. Showunmi was raised in Lagos where he had his elementary, secondary and Tertiary education. Background
As a young child growing up in Nigeria at the toughest period of the Country's history was no easy experience. And that seemed to have shape his political consciousness. As young as seven he was already acquainted with politics and international relations. It was a period of the end of the Cold War, Nigeria's third republic and followed by the dictatorship of Gen Sani Abacha. Consequently, it had ignited a political consciousness in his young life. The lives of Wole Soyinka, Gani Fawehinmi, Beko Kuti etc. and their activism became influential models to his growing mind and has never ceased to be even at adulthood.
Career
He is a Lagos trained Socio-political Philosopher who holds a strong view that Nigeria either needs a restructuring that would allow the individuation of ethnic nationalities or run a confederacy. The view subsisting on his understanding of Ogundowole's Philosophy of Self-Reliancism. Ogundowole, a Professor of Philosophy, taught him Philosophy both at undergraduate and Post Graduate levels in the University of Lagos.
In 2014, he was named as one of the most Influential under 30 Youths in Nigeria by an Online Entertainment Magazine - Hype9ja.com. For his commentaries on socio-political issues in Nigeria and the International community as being published on several Media Platforms including Tribune, Sahara Reporters, YNaija!, The Nigerian Voice, Hype9ja etc.
He worked as an Assistant to Governor Mimiko's former Special Duties Aide- Seyi Adeniyi for close to two years before going freelance as a Content Writer and later Founding KREED, A Media/Publishing, Integrated Marketing and Resources Trade Exchange Company with three of his friends in 2013. He also sits on the Board of Two start-up companies and functions as the Head, Operations and Innovation for DeltaForte Network, a Trade and Resources company managed by his friend Kome Agbauduta.
As a Strategist, he consults for several cultural and socio-political political pressure groups in Nigeria particularly the oil rich Niger-Delta region of Nigeria. He is also an honorary member of the Young Progressive Nigeria Initiative established by a Nigerian born UK Lawyer, Kunle Osibogun whom he met through his college political comrade Aly Zik Abiola.
