Manuel Alfredo Sosabravo

Manuel Alfredo Sosabravo was born in Sagua la Grande, Cuba, in October 25, 1930. He resides in Havana, Cuba. He developed the Painting, Drawing, Engraving, and Ceramics. Between 1955-1957 he studied in the Escuela Elemental de Artes Plásticas Aplicadas Anexa a San Alejandro, in Havana, Cuba.

Individual Exhibitions

Among his must important personal exhibitions we can mention in 1958 Oleos y Dibujos, in the Sala Atelier, in Havana, Cuba. In 1990 he exhibited La Naturaleza, el Hombre, la Máquina. Exposición Antológica de Alfredo Sosabravo, in the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, in Havana, Cuba. In 1997 he made Sosabravo. El Guardián de lo Pequeño, in the Galería de Arte, in Madrid, Spain. And in 1998 he presented Alfredo Sosabravo. Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas 1997, in the Centro Wifredo Lam, in Havana, Cuba.

Collective Exhibitions

He was part in many collective exhibitions. In 1963 he participated in the Primera Bienal Americana de Grabado, in the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Universidad de Chile, in Santiago de Chile, Chile. He was also included in the II(1970)/V(1976)/IX(1984), and X(1986) Biennale International de la Cerámique d'Art, in Vallauris, France. In 1982 he was one of the selected artists to participated in the XL Biennale di Venezia, in Venice, Italy. In 1993 some of his works were selected to conform the 1e. Internationale Grafick Biennale, Maastricht Exhibition and Congress Center (MECC), in Maastricht, Holland. And in 1996 he participated in the Feria Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo Arco'96, in the Pabellón de Cristal, in Madrid, Spain.

Awards

During his life he had obteined many awards and recognitions. In 1976 he received a Diploma of Honor, in the V Biennale International de la Cerámique d'Art, in Vallauris, France. In this year he gained a Gold Medal, at the XXXIV Concorso Internazionale della Ceramica d'Arte Contemporanea, in Faenza, Italy. In 1994 he has been awarded with the Order Félix Varela in the First Degree, for the Consejo de Estado, Republic of Cuba. And in 1997 he obteined the National Plastic Arts Prize 1997, Ministerio de Cultura, Cuba.

His works can be found formed part of the important collections such as Casa de Las Américas, in Havana, Cuba. In Italy, in the Colección Ediciones Pirella; in Germany, in the Gabinete de la Estampa, in Dresden, and in the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, in Havana, Cuba.
