Juan Tomás Esson Reid

Juan Tomás Esson Reid was born in Havana, Cuba, Cuba, on February,on 1963. He made art sutudies at the Escuela de Bellas Artes San Alejandro, Havana, Cuba in 1982 and continued later at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), Havana, Cuba. He developed diferents art forms like drawing, painting and installation.

Individual Exhibitions

Among the solo shows with his work can be mention ¡Patria o Muerte! at Project Castillo de la Real Fuerza,Havana ,Cuba in 1989; ¡Qué calor! and Paintings, Drawings, Installation Inspired in: Havana, Miami, Hamburg at Opus Gallery, Coral Gables, Florida, U.S.A in 1991. In 1993 he presented Tomás Esson. A Tarro Partido IIIat the Fredric Snitzer Gallery, Coral Gables, Florida and Cha Cha Cha at Art Cologne Internationale Kunstmarkt. Colonia, Germany . Later in 1995 he showsAgua at Vrej Baghoomian Gallery, New York, U.S.A.

Collective Exhibitions

He also formed part of many collective exhibitions like El ISA Saluda la Bienal in the first Havana Biennial,Galería L, Havana, Cuba in 1984; XXV Premi Internacional de Dibuix Joan Miró. Fundació Joan Miró, Centre d’Estudis d’Art Contemporani, Parc de Montjuic, Barcelona, Spain in 1985. He shows also his work in differents cities of united States, also participed in Cuba: La Isla Posible at Centro de Cultura Contemporánea de Barcelona,Spain in the nineties.

During his life he has obteined diferents recognitions like Prize “13 de Marzo” contest, Galería L, Havana, Cuba and Selection Prize. Absolut Esson, Absolut Vodka Publicity Campaign, U.S.A.
