From Parts Unknown: Fight Like A Girl
From Parts Unknown: Fight Like A Girl is a 2015 Australian wrestling-horror feature film directed by Daniel Armstrong.
Plot
From Parts Unknown: Fight Like a Girl tells the story of Charlie. After watching her Daddy die in the ring, She sets out to become a wrestler in his memory. The only things stopping her are a disapproving boyfriend, a demanding day job and a soul-crushing boss – whose corporate shenanigans threaten to unleash hordes of zombies upon the earth! Charlie has no choice but to open a can of whoop-[...] and take these murderous Jabronis for a stroll on smack down boulevard!
History
The feature film From Parts Unknown: Fight like a Girl began its life in late 2006 and, at the time of writing this, is in the final stages of post-production. The cast and crew had a simple vision: to make the world’s greatest – and if not only - wrestling-horror-zombie-video-game movie. What followed was a near decade long fight to get the film to see the light of day. The inspiration behind From Parts Unknown: Fight like a Girl comes, at least in part, from director/writer Daniel Armstrong’s time working in the video game industry. Armstrong is also a lifelong wrestling fan. The combination of characters from his day job with the concept of a wrestling action video game gone wrong is what ultimately led to From Parts Unknown: Fight like a Girl.
On October 6 the film went into production with less than $5,000, no director of photography, no editor, no composer, no sound designer, and no access to any kind of post-production facility. These difficulties would lead to seven years plus of post-production hell.
The rough edit struggled to come together over a 12 month period. A bad deal with the wrong people ultimately left the filmmakers without any sound files. With no more money and no resources left to salvage the film From Parts Unknown had to be shelved – indefinitely. Fast-forward a few years and the director’s life took an unexpected turn - he accidentally made an international cult film. What started off as a short film, turned into a web series, turned into a feature film and finally became The World's First Roller Derby Slasher Movie: MurderDrome. MurderDrome has headlined two film festivals and been distributed in Australia, New Zealand, The UK, Ireland, the USA and Canada and inspired over 50 fan organised screenings all over the world. This success gave From Parts Unknown a second wind and the filmmakers went back to the source material and rebuilt the film from scratch!
‘So I just had to make that film, lose it, make another film, then make FPU again to get her there. I do sure hope someone likes it.’ – Daniel Armstrong
