History

APTARE was founded in 1993 by a team of computer software engineers, including Richard Clark, the current president and CEO. The company is private and claims to be profitable, with no outside investors.

In 2003, APTARE developed and brought its first product to market, APTARE StorageConsole Backup Manager. In 2007, the company released APTARE StorageConsole Capacity Manager and created a product suite bundling StorageConsole Backup and StorageConsole Capacity Manager into one platform. In 2009, APTARE added to the console by introducing two new products: APTARE StorageConsole Virtualization Manager and APTARE StorageConsole Replication Manager.

Technology

The company holds a U.S. patent, # 7,558,927, titled “System to capture, transmit and persist backup and recovery meta data.” APTARE describes the patent as a way to provide a method for capturing critical information about storage environments by transmitting this information to a common portal for persistent storage in a database.

The APTARE StorageConsole integrates all of its products into the single console and leverage’s APTARE’s common agentless data collection engine.

Products and Services

APTARE provides a “cost-effective, agentless storage reporting platform leveraging all the benefits of Web 2.0 architecture.” Its primary products are the StorageConsole 7.0 platform, which has four products as part of the solution: StorageConsole Backup Manager, Capacity Manager, Virtualization Manager and Replication Manager.

StorageConsole Backup Manager provides backup reporting management, allowing administrators to get detailed information of their backups and recovery. StorageConsole Backup Manager supports VERITAS, VMware, Tivoli, EMC, HP, Sun Microsystems and Oracle environments.

StorageConsole Capacity Manager addresses the issue of capacity planning in storage environments. StorageConsole Capacity Manager compares data and produces a capacity utilization number based on actual storage usage rather than allocation.12 StorageConsole Capacity Manager supports EMC, Hitachi Data Systems, HP, IBM, LSI, NetApp, SGI, Sun and Teradata storage arrays. StorageConsole Virtualization Manager provides storage insight that allows administrators to plan, manage and optimize resources in virtualized environments. StorageConsole Virtualization Manager supports VMware ESX environments, version 3.0 or higher, with future support planned for Microsoft Hyper-V and Citrix XenServer.

StorageConsole Replication Manager addresses the issue of managing replication software and the lack of visibility in replicated data stores while identifying performance bottlenecks. StorageConsole Replication Manager supports NetApp’s SnapMirror, SnapVault and FlexClone environments.
