Wayne Cordeiro (born October 20, 1952) is Founder and Senior Pastor of New Hope Christian Fellowship in Honolulu, Hawaii. Biography Cordeiro was born in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. His childhood years were spent mostly in Hawaii and Japan, but by the time he reached high school he was living in the mountain community of Trail north of Medford, Oregon. Cordeiro moved to Portland and began attending classes at Mount Hood Community College. Cordeiro graduated from Eugene Bible College in Oregon, once an affiliated member and official college of the Open Bible Standard Churches. The thirty-one-year-old Cordeiro pastored a congregation of 35 people at New Hope Hilo. By 1991, the congregation size was nearly 2,000 in attendance. Cordeiro led the building of their church facility on a lot that hosts a gymnasium and softball fields. Cordeiro helped plant over 102 churches in the Pacific Rim and beyond, including Hawaii, Las Vegas, Seattle, Los Angeles, Montana, the Philippines, Japan, Myanmar and Australia. Cordeiro is the Founding and Senior Pastor of New Hope Christian Fellowship in Honolulu, Hawaii with over 11,500 in weekend attendance. He is also the President of New Hope International, the leadership training and church planting arm of New Hope. As of June, 2010, he serves on the Board of Directors at, Eugene Bible College, which has been renamed New Hope Christian College. NHCC has become part of, and the largest school in, a consortium of Pacific Rim Christian Colleges with additional locations in Hawaii, Myanmar, and Tokyo. Lawsuit In 2013, Cordeiro became involved in a high profile lawsuit in the state of Hawaii involving three of his New Hope churches. The suit alleges that Cordeiro's churches, among others, owe the state of Hawaii more than $5 million for utilizing Hawaiian public school facilities without proper compensation, although the plaintiffs are requesting three times the amount based on whistle blower laws, among other civil penalties.
