The Vodafone Cup was a pre-season football tournament that took place in August 2004. The tournament was staged at Old Trafford, Manchester on Tuesday, 3 August and Thursday, 5 August. It featured Manchester United, PSV Eindhoven, Boca Juniors and Urawa Red Diamonds. Results Boca Juniors defeated the Japanese outfit, Urawa Red Diamonds 5-2 in the opening game. Due to the unique points system, this gifted Boca 8 points. Manchester United defeated PSV Eindhoven 1-0 in the night's other game, Mikaël Silvestre scoring the winner. The second round of games was interrupted by adverse weather conditions. Boca Juniors were leading 1-0 against PSV Eindhoven before the game was abandoned. The evening's other game between Manchester United and Urawa Red Diamonds was called off and declared a draw. Boca Juniors were awarded the trophy as they led the tournament on 12 points.
