Villyan Bijev (born 3 January 1993) is an American professional footballer from Bulgarian descent, who currently plays as a forward for Fortuna Düsseldorf on loan from Liverpool F.C. Career Bijev began his career at Edison High School in Fresno. Whilst there he joined California Odyssey of the Super Y-League where he was coached by former Major League Soccer and USA national team player Chad McCarty. In June 2010 he was named to the 2010 PARADE All-America soccer team and represented the USA at an Under 18s tournament in Lisbon in May, 2011. In the summer of 2011 he underwent a trial at the Academy of Liverpool. Reports that he had been offered a three year deal with the English club surfaced in late July. On 31 August, 2011 Liverpool formally announced that after being "impressed" by the player, they had signed him and immediately placed him on loan to German side Fortuna Düsseldorf. International Career Bijev has represented the USA at Under 18 level, playing at a tournament in Lisbon in May 2011. Personal Life Bijev was raised in Fresno, California, but also holds a Bulgarian passport through his father, Chris.
