UK 2016

UK 2016 is the 101st World Esperanto Congress (Universala Kongreso de Esperanto or UK) and will take place from 23-30 July 2016 in Nitra in east Slovakia. The congress theme is Social justice — linguistic justice (Socia justeco — lingva justeco). It is the first World Congress in Slovakia, if you don't consider the 13th congress held in Prague when it was the capital of Czechoslovakia.
History
The board of directors of the World Esperanto Association made the decision about the congress city on 30 July 2014 during the 99th World Congress in Buenos Aires and the president Mark Fettes announced it during a meeting of the committee on 1 August 2014. It will be one of the two special issues of stamps in Slovakia in 2016, the second will be about the European presidency of Slovakia. It is about the first issue of stamps with an Esperanto theme in an independent Slovakia.
On 20 February 2015 the Local Congress Committee (Loka Kongresa Komitato or LKK) launched a public competition for an emblem for UK 2016. The Russian Esperantist Elena Khusanova was chosen as winner on 23 May. Her proposal was chosen by a jury among 48 proposals submitted by 11 participants.
One year before the congress, in August 2015, the 88th congress of SAT took place in Nitra.
On 13 December 2015 Johannes Mueller and Eva Fitzelová publicly announced their plan about the internet broadcast from UK 2016 as part of their project Movada vidpunkto.
The European Esperanto Union (EÅropa Esperanto-Unio or EEU) announced on January 2016 that during UK 2016 its assembly and board meetings will happen instead of the planned European Congress of EEU.
