Tosha Thakkar was an Indian student studying in Australia.Ms Thakkar was studying accounting at the Sydney College of Business and IT, which collaborates with Southern Cross University, and was a permanent resident of Australia. She seems to have been working at Woolies Surry Hills in the evenings. Murder Sometime between the 9th and 11th of March, 2011, she was sexually assaulted and murdered.Her body was found, stuffed into a suitcase , by construction workers. They spotted the suitcase in a canal near Meadowbank Park on Friday, as they were engaged in patrolling for maintenance work on an oil pipeline. She was 24 and had been living in Australia for the past three to four years. The Parramatta Local authorities have arrested one Daniel Stani-Reginald , age 19 at an Ashfield motel.He lived close to Ms Thakkar in Croydon.He has been charged with aggravated sexual assault and murder.He did not apply for bail and it was formally refused, with the matter adjourned to Burwood Local Court. Meanwhile outside the court, students held up a poster that read: ”We want justice for our Indian international friend Tosha Thakkar”. They said they had ”no idea” whether the attack was racially motivated. Daniel Stani-Reginald is reported to be an Australian of Sri Lankan descent. He is scheduled to reappear in court on May 9.
