2009 Belleville school bus beating

The 2009 Belleville school bus beating was an event that occurred in Belleville, Illinois, quickly drawing national attention due to the overtones of blatant bullying.
The school bus beating occurred when a seventeen year old student was attacked at the hands of two younger students who were all three riding on a bus together. The victim, who was white, was beaten by two black students after apparently moving a book bag to sit down on a crowded bus.
In the initial hours after the attack, the Belleville Sheriff's Department stated to reporters that the attack was racially motivated, although these initial allegations of racism were quickly withdrawn after reviewing taped video footage of the assault..
The two attackers were expelled for a year and a half from the Belleville school system and charged with felony assault.
