The book starts off with the main character Jack and his companion Apu in Mexico. They uncovered a mysterious Mayan artifact, a wall that has mysterious symbols on it.
The symbols lead them on a mission across the United States to discover what the meaning behind the 8 strange symbols mean and how they relate to the end of the Mayan long count calendar. The “8 Keys” discuss such matters as meditation and the importance of mediation, Living on Purpose, and many other spiritual/new age concepts.
The characters learn about each Key as they travel across the state searching for the next. All the while being chased by the Veni Victus, a society bent on stopping the release of the spiritual information before the end of the Mayan Calendar.
