Ashley Nicole Wyrick (born December 30, 1987) is an American woman who became famous at the age of 4 hours old after being abandoned in a paper bag during the winter of 1987 just hours after being born on a highway in Redwood City, California. When Steve Gibbons, a California Highway Patrol officer, pulled off Interstate 280 to stop and stretch his legs, he had heard Ashley and found her wrapped in a towel inside the paper bag. She was admitted to a hospital. Because she had survived freezing temperatures, she was nicknamed Miraculous Mary. Ashley was later adopted by Leo and Kathy Wyrick as an infant. After five years, her parents divorced and Leo won custody of Ashley. Leo was diagnosed with cancer when Ashley was nine years old and died a year later. At the age of 11, Ashley later went to live with Georgia and Leo Wyrick's daughter, Serenë Herrmann. Serenë later became a guardian for Ashley. Aftermath Ashley graduated from Sequoia High School in June 2006. She also took part in an interview for CBS' The Early Show along with Steve Gibbons, the police officer who rescued her and Serenë Herrmann. Her story was also featured in a story in People Magazine.
