Syed Afzal Abbas (born 5 January 1966) is an Indian politician who is the senior leader of and the chairman of the Bihar State Shia Waqf Board in the Government of Bihar. Early life and education Abbas was born on 5 January 1966, in Village Lashkaripur, P.O. Manikpura, Police Station - Janta Bazar, District Chhapra Saran, Bihar. His father, Syed Ali Haider who was a social worker by profession, died 10 days before Abbas was born. Abbas was raised by his mother, Bibi Umme Laila. Abbas attanded Urdu Makhtab School in Lashkaripur, Chhapra and Middle School Rampur Bindalal in Chhapra. Since childhood, he has been interested in football and participated in the state-level football competition in 1981 from R.N High School Parsagarh, Chhapra. Enrollment in Inter was done from Rajendra College, Chapra, here he received his bachelor's degree. Political career Influenced by senior leader Smt. Uma Pandey, Abbas joined the Indian National Congress Party and worked in the Indian National Congress party. In 1990, he was appointed Chairman of the Minority Cell in Baniapur Block in the Government of Bihar. From 1990 to 1995, he was also elected Secretary of State Youth. In 1999, Abbas helped in Samata Party candidate's Prabhu Nath Singh victory. After this, the Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJP) was formed by Ram Vilas Paswan and he joined the party while living in Delhi as a founding member. He was appointed president of the minority cell of Delhi state in the Lok Jan Shakti Party. After a few days of appointment, Ram Vilas Paswan nominated him as the National President of LJP Minority Cell. While being in the party, Abbas tried to strengthen the organization in Delhi for almost 10 years. On 16 September 2020, he resigned from the primary membership. In 2010, Abbas worked as a campaigner for the Janata Dal (United) party in the Bihar Legislative Assembly Election. Personal life Abbas has three sons and one daughter. His eldest daughter is Shaista Zainab, followed by sons Syed Zeya Abbas, Syed Zeeshan Abbas, and Syed Danish Abbas.
